If you are evenly mildly interested in architecture and design, I suggest you pick up a copy of Gray Magazine. It's a gorgeous design magazine based in Washington State and focused on architecture and design of the Pacific Northwest. I was hired to make a couple of portraits of two local (Portland) gentlemen for an article highlighting designers who have interesting and unique backgrounds. One of my subjects, Matthew Boyes is a former ballet dancer (although, amusingly, I misheard my editor say belly dancer). The other portrait was of Garrison Hullinger who, at the encouragement of his physical therapist, used redesigning his home as a means of recovering from a head injury thus shifting his career from a project manager for the Gap to becoming a very successful interior designer. Inspiring, to say the least.
